Born on the 14th of July, 1987, Larry Madowo is a Kenyan journalist who is currently working with the British Broadcasting Corporation.He had previously worked for other major networks including the CNBC Africa and the Kenya Television Network. He also hosted a radio show on the Nation FM from August 2014, 'The Larry Madowo Show' until the station was closed down.
Larry wrote a column in the Daily Nation everyday titled #FrontRow and another popular show on NTV, #theTrend.
Talking about his early life, it was in various parts of Kenya including Nairobi and Siaya. He attended the Karapul primary school and moved on to St.Gabriel's Seminary for his secondary education, hoping to become a Catholic priest but was later to change his mind to journalism.
In the year 2007, Larry enrolled for a degree in communications from the Daystar University, Nairobi, Kenya. He interned for a vernacular radio station,the Bahasha FM reading news in English and eventually dropped out of college a year and a half down to his degree to take up a job at the Kenyan Television Network.
May 2012, he joined South African based CNBC Africa and pioneered on the show, 'Eye on Kenya'. He worked with the CNBC Africa only for a few months and returned to NTV December, same year.
Madowo returned to college and then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree from the Daystar University in June 2014.
On the 11th of April, 2018, he joined BBC News Africa as the Business Editor and leads a team of business journalists based in London, Nairobi, Lagos, Johannesburg and Dakar.
He has appeared across the BBC World Service Radio, BBC World TV, BBC News channel in the UK, bbc.com and Radio 4 either as a reporter or a commentator on African business.
