Alex Okosi had his early education at Zik Avenue Primary School, Enugu before proceeding to the College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC) at the age of 12.
Okosi attended a number of schools in New York, Missouri, Nebraska and Florida before attending Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire.
He also attended St. Michael’s College, a private, residential liberal arts Catholic college located in Colchester, Vermont where he was awarded a scholarship to play Division II basketball for the Purple Knights.
He graduated magna cum laude in 1998 with a double major in Business Administration and Economics.
Career
Alex Okosi began his career at MTV in 1998 as part of the Trade and Integrated Marketing team. He gained valuable experience developing multi-platform marketing opportunities for advertisers that successfully integrated them into marquee, MTV franchises such as Video Music Awards, Spring Break, Movie Awards, and Wanna Be a VJ.In 2000, he joined the MTV Networks Affiliate Sales & Marketing division where he was responsible for securing distributing for MTV Networks brands such as MTV, MTV2, CMT, Spike TV, VH1 and Nickelodeon.
By mid-2003, Alex had transferred to MTV Networks International’s Strategy and Business Development team as a manager. While in this role, he developed the business plan for MTV’s growth in Africa and in 2004 secured approval for the roll-out which encompassed the launch of a localized MTV service.
In 2019, YouTube announced the appointment of Alex Okosi as its Managing Director of Emerging Markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
According to the information made available to Information Guide Africa in a statement on Tuesday, the appointment takes effect in April 2020.
Cécile Frot-Coutaz, the head of YouTube EMEA, while commenting on the appointment said, Alex "brings a wealth of experience in the content industries and has a track record for building businesses and audiences in established and new markets. Alex will be leading our existing teams in Russia, Sub Saharan Africa, Turkey, the Middle East and North Africa to drive further expansion in these key markets.”
YouTube said Alex’s appointment will further fuel the development of its creative ecosystem in the EMEA region.
