Sheyi Emmanuel Adebayor was born on the 26th of February, 1984 in Lomé, Togo to Shadrach Adebayo Adeyi and Hajia Adebayor. He is of Yoruba descent but moved to Metz, France in 1999 after a talent scout spotted him.
He left Metz in 2006 after he got signed by Arsenal and since then,he has played for a number of English and French football teams like Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Monaco, Real Madrid, Metz, Başakşehir and Kayserispor.
He represented the Togo national team at the country's debut, and to date only, appearance at the World Cup, the 2006 FIFA World Cup which held in Germany. In 2006, he was among the players caught up in the gunfire that attacked the Togo team's bus on their way to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola. After the event,he retired from the national team duty.
In 2013, Adebayor returned to the Togo team to represent them in the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa. He helped his country to qualify for the quarter-finals. Up-till date, Adebayor is still the Togo's all-time top goalscorer having scored up to 32 goals for the team.
