Timi Dakolo Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family, Education, Career

Born on the 20th of January, 1981 to a Nigerian father and a Ghanaian mother, Timi Dakolo was raised up in Port Harcour, Rivers State, Nigeria.
He lost his mother when he was thirteen years old and despite being born in Ghana, holds a Nigerian passport and doesn't claim dual citizenship.

Timi started singing in church when he was just twelve, and in the year 2003 founded the singing group, Purple Love. They were dominating in Port Harcourt but disbanded in 2005 after all their members got admission into the University of Port Harcourt, and Timi won a local talent hunt contest, the G.E FACTO held in Port Harcourt around same period.
He auditioned for the reality show, Idols West Africa in Calabar, 2006 and his vocals impressed the judges earning him an entrance. A week before the viewing of the Top 24 performances, he received the news of his grandmother's death.

The competition was over and Dakolo emerged the winner, and on the 1st of January, 2008, he was shot at the lobby of the Presidential Hotel in Port Harcourt.
He wasn't the target and had gone to the hotel to attend a church service in the company of his friends when a fraction of the Niger Delta militants attacked. He escaped with a flesh wound, was rushed to hospital, treated and discharged the same day.

He released his first single October 2009, and released the song, 'There's a Cry' 2011. Timi Dakolo is currently one of the Judges on The Voice Nigeria.
