Odion Jude Ighalo is a Nigerian professional footballer who was born on the 16th of June, 1989. He plays for the Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua as a striker and the Nigerian national team.He started his career at the Prime and Julius Berger and then moved to Norway's Lyn in the year 2007. Barely a year later, Ighalo was signed by Udinese, and he spent most of his tenure loaned out before signing for Watford in 2014
His debut for the Nigerian national team was in 2015, and he represented the nation at the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
Talking about his early life, Ighalo was born in Lagos State and raised up in Edo State, both in Nigeria.
He made his Tippeligaen debut on the 16th of September, 2007 when he was just 18, scoring in a 2–0 home win against Viking. He also scored six goals in 13 matches in his second year to help his team to the seventh position, and subsequently arose interest from other clubs in the country, with Brann reporting Lyn to the Football Association of Norway for unfairness in the negotiation process.
On the 30th of July, 2008, Ighalo signed for Udinese in Italy, moving alongside teammate Jo Inge Berget and agreeing to a five-year contract. He also appeared rarely in Serie A in his debut season, scoring against Cagliari in a 6–2 home routing – four of his five league appearances came as a late substitute.
He joined the Chinese Super League club Changchun Yatai on the 31st of January, 2017 for a reported £20 million and ranked second in the scoring charts in his second season at 21, but his team suffered relegation.
Ighalo transferred to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua on the 14 of February, 2019 and in March, he said he turned down a move to Barcelona the previous month.
Odion Ighalo is currently married to Sonia Ighalo and they have a child, Samuel Ighalo.
