7 Nigerian Celebrities That Became Popular After Participating In Reality Shows
A reality show is a kind of TV program that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, it mostly involves unknown individuals rather than professional actors.
There are many popular reality TV shows in Nigeria like the BBNaija (2017-date), WipeOutNaija (2019-date), Nigerian Idol (2010-date), Project Fame (2008-date), Nigeria's Got Talent (2012-date), The Voice Nigeria (2016-date), Knorr Taste Quest (2013-date), Guilder Ultimate Search (2004-2014) and many more.
These reality TV shows have over the years made a lot of previously unpopular Nigerians celebrities. Many of the talented stars we'll be listing here just needed a platform for showcasing their talent to the world and the reality shows served them with just that.

Yemi Alade is one Africa's most successful artists who rose to form after winning the Peak Talent Show. Yemi Alade on June, 2019 became the first African lady to hit 1 million subscribers on YouTube. Her hit song, 'Johnny' has also reached 100,000 million views.
She featured Rick Ross in the remix of 'Oh My Gosh', she has also made songs with a lot of African stars like Flavour, Tekno Miles and others.

• Ebuka Obi Uchendu

Ebuka Obi Uchendu
Ebuka Obi Uchendu rose to fame after participating in the 2006 Edition of the Big Brother Africa reality TV show. He is popular for his trendy styles and fashion and also his role as the BBNaija host.
Ebuka is one of the most successful people in the Nigeria that rose to fame after participating in a reality show.
Apart from working as the BB Naija host, Ebuka has also hosted a good number of shows like, 'Friend of Foe' and the Glo show on NTA, 'Guiness Greatness TV'. He is also the host of the popular TV talk show, 'Rubbing Minds' on the Channels TV.

• Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo
Timi Dakolo is a popular Nigerian singer who rose to fame after emerging winner of West African Idol 2007. Timi started singing in church at the age of twelve and joined the singing group Purple Love as a founding member.
He came into limelight in 2007 after winning Idol West Africa. The victory also earned him a recording contract with Sony BMG, in addition to other prizes. Timi Dakolo is currently signed with Lone Records/Now Muzi and also one of the Judges on The Voice Nigeria. He is happily married to Busola Dakolo and they have three children.

• Tonto Dikeh

Tonto Dikeh
The controversial actress Tonto Dikeh is also among the A-list celebrities that rose to fame after participating in reality shows. In 2005, Tonto Dikeh was a contestant on a reality show called “The Next Movie Star”.
Right now she has grown into an influential actress with a lot of awards. She is also the first female Nigerian actress to  signed a ₦100 million deal after she signed a deal with Zikel Cosmetics.

• Iyanya

Iyanya
The former Made Men Music artist and Kukere crooner, Inyanya rose to fame after participating in the first season of Project Fame West Africa.
He has also worked with a lot of Nigerian superstars like Wizkid, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid, Harrysong, Dice Ailes and more.

• Omawumi

Omawumi
Omawumi Megbele is also another Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress that rose to limelight after participating in the West African Idols TV show.
Omawumi has grown over the years having won several awards and endorsments with companies like Globacom, Malta Guinness and Konga.com. 

• Chidinma Ekile

Chidinma Ekile
The Kedike crooner, Chidinma Ekile rose to limelight after winning the third season of Project Fame West Africa. She became the first Nigerian artist to peak at number 1 on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 chart after the release of the music video for her "Emi Ni Baller" single.
Chidinma also won the Best Female West African Act at the 2012 Kora Awards and performed "Kedike" at the ceremony.
