Born on the 7th of March, 1947, Chief Pete Edochie, MON is a veteran Nigerian actor and considered one of Africa's biggest.
He had been a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, and came into prominence in the 1980s when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time best selling novel, Things Fall Apart.

Edochie is an Igbo by origin, and a Catholic by religious denomination. He started radio broadcasting in the year 1967 when he was just 20, and worked as a junior programmes assistant after which he was elevated to the level of a Director and occasionally acting as the Managing Director.
He quit ABS when the government started politicising the affairs of the station, thereby asking the entire management including Pete to move out.
He left and had to enroll into the movie industry, and the movie, 'Things Fall Apart' as at then had already won awards and was giving him international recognition.

He endorsed Wikimedia movement in Nigeria in September 2017 Edochie  by appearing in a video to increase awareness and use of Wikipedia among the older generations.
In the year 2005, the Actors' Guild of Nigeria placed Pete Edochie and several other actors, including Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Stella Damasus Aboderin,Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Nkem Owoh, and Richard Mofe Damijo on a one-year ban from filming after they were said to have been collecting huge fees from producers due to their A-list celebrity status. 
The ban placed on these actors was seen as doom in the Nigerian film business, but they got back into the industry.

Pete Edochie was kidnapped in 2009 and later released unharmed. He is married to Josephine Edochie and they have two children together.
