Shocking Ways Bedwetting Affects Your Children's Sleep
Bedwetting is a condition that happens during sleep and it is more common than you can think.
Medically this is known as the nocturnal enuresis.
Most of the kids wet the bed at the time of the potty-training phase and learning to control the bladder is said to be the last stage of the potty-training process.
Until the age of 7 years, bedwetting is not considered to be a problem.
Bedwetting amongst the kids is often a result of the immaturity.  It is difficult to specify a particular age when the kid starts to control the bladder and it is quite a complex process that includes the coordinated action of the nerves, muscles, brain and the spinal cord.

There are primarily 2 types of bedwetting. Though the secondary form is quite less common, the primary bedwetting frequently occurs and it happens when the kids don’t have any control during the night over urination.
On the other hand, the secondary type starts affecting the child after she has already started to remain dry during the night for about 6 months. The secondary bedwetting can be the result of the psychological stress but the medical conditions like urinary tract obstruction or constipation can also be responsible for it.

It is advisable that if your kids suffer from secondary bedwetting you should contact your doctor for a diagnosis.
Here are some of the symptoms of bedwetting that affect the kids. Just take a look.

Symptoms of Bedwetting

Most patients of the condition usually wet the bed only at night and the children are not an exception to that. There is, usually no other symptom other than that.

The other symptoms can suggest psychological causes or issues with kidneys or nervous system. The healthcare provider and the family should know that this can be more serious than the usual bedwetting.
Here are enlisted some of the routine symptoms of bedwetting.
• Urgency, enhanced frequency or burning during urination.
• Wetting during the daytime.
• Pinkish or cloudy urine or blood stains on the pajama and underpants.
• Dribbling, straining or other symptoms with unusual urination.
• Constipation
• Not being able to control the movement of the bowel or soiling which is known as encopresis or fiscal incontinence.
Most kids are completely trained for toilet by the time they are about 4-5 years old.
However when complete control of the bladder is developed cannot be specified. It varies from one child to the other.

In between the ages of 5-7 years, bed-wetting begins to be an issue for some of the kids. A minor number of kids also wet the bed after 7 years.
You must consult with your doctor if the following happens –
• Your child starts wetting the bed after being dry at night for a number of months.
• Your child is about 7 years old and still wets the bed.
• The bed wetting occurs along with abnormally intense thirst, red or pink urine, snoring or hard stools.

Causes of Bedwetting

There are various factors that can lead to bedwetting. Here some of them are enlisted.
• Inability to recognise a full bladder
• A small bladder
• Urinary tract infection
• Imbalance of Hormone
• Sleep Apnea
• Chronic Constipation
• Diabetes
• Structural Issues in the Nervous System or Urinary Tract

How to Treat or Deal with Bedwetting in Kids

The bedwetting tends to occur during the first few sleeping hours and ensuring that your kid goes to the bathroom before retiring to bed is a great way to prevent it.
Here are some of the usual ways to control this issue. Just take a look.
• Wake your kid up at night before the child wets the bed and take her to the bathroom.
• Establish a consistent bedtime routine where the kid has to go to the bathroom before going to bed.
• Talk to the kid about the advantages of potty-training like not having to wear the diapers and becoming a big kid.
• Develop a reward system for inspiring the kid like stickers for the dry nights.
• You can start using the system where you get alerted by a bell whenever your child’s bed or pajama gets wet.
• You should limit the beverages in the evening and even the last-minute water droplets.

Apart from that, you should also start using certain products for the school-going kids who have enuresis like –
• Reusable Underpants that are Absorbent
• Disposable Underpants that are Absorbent
• Moisture Alarms that Alert You when the Kid starts Wetting the Bed or Pajama
• Sleep Bag Liners
You should not punish your child for wetting the bed. After all, she is not at fault, here and she cannot control it.
So, you must not talk about bedwetting in front of the others and be attentive and patient towards your child. Also try not to provide fluids before bed and discuss with your kid about how the bladder works.

Consult with your doctor and a reputed sleep apnea dentist to make sure how you can assist your child and help her to control this condition and eventually get rid of it.
